The Région Sud integrates SEA Index® into its Action Plan – Agreements for a Sustainable Mediterranean.

Monaco, JUNE 30th 2025

The Superyacht Eco Association (SEA Index®), initiated by the Yacht Club de Monaco, is honored to be included in the Agreements for a Sustainable Mediterranean – Action Plan led by the Région Sud.

These agreements aim to reinforce the Region’s commitment to preserving marine ecosystems, safeguarding fishery resources, and building a better future for Mediterranean communities.

Presented during a plenary session on 25 June at the Hôtel de Région in Marseille, these agreements are viewed as vital to protecting the Mediterranean, reducing the Région Sud’s ecological footprint, and mitigating the effects of climate change. Yachting plays a fully integrated role in this vision.

The Mediterranean welcomes nearly 50% of the global yacht fleet each year, making our commitment to sustainability all the more critical. The SEA Index®, an initiative of the Yacht Club de Monaco, is at the forefront of this mission. By promoting its certification process, we not only advocate for cleaner seas but also actively support the energy transition within the yachting sector. Together, we are shaping a more responsible and sustainable future for yachting.
Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, Vice-President of Régions de France.

Region Sud Session Pleniere

The Mediterranean’s strategic position enables the Région Sud to play a key role in raising awareness, encouraging, and supporting stakeholders toward improved environmental performance in yachting.

The SEA Index®’s CO₂ certification process will play a central role by enabling industry players to accurately measure, monitor, and reduce their carbon emissions. Designed for yachts of 24 meters and above, the SEA Index® offers an independent framework with objective, unbiased data verified by the maritime classification society Lloyd’s Register.
With its refit recommendations, exclusive benefits for members, and extensive international network, the SEA Index® addresses a growing demand for environmental transparency and offers practical tools tailored to yachting professionals. The SEA Index® is also committed to addressing other environmental impacts, including noise and air pollution.
As part of the Agreements for a Sustainable Mediterranean, the SEA Index® will be promoted throughout the region to advance and accelerate the adoption of more environmentally responsible yachting practices.
The growth of sustainable yachting will directly support the main goal of the agreements: to protect and preserve the environment.

We are delighted that the Région Sud has chosen to adopt the SEA Index® as part of its efforts for a Sustainable Mediterranean. This reflects the trust and recognition the SEA Index® has earned as an independent, objective, and verifiable sustainability tool in the yachting sector. Thanks to the support of the Région Sud – Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and the adoption of the agreements, we are excited to extend our impact and help the yachting community better measure and reduce its CO₂ emissions. Together, we will build a more sustainable future for the Mediterranean and its people.
Bernard d’Alessandri, President of the SEA Index® Superyacht Eco Association.
