The Superyacht Eco Association® is pleased to announce that the Port of Saint-Tropez is joining the SEA Index® as an Institutional member in a bid to promote sustainable yachting throughout the Mediterranean and beyond.
On October 3rd, 2024, Mrs. Sylvie Siri, Mayor of Saint-Tropez and Regional Councillor, Mr. Michel Perrault, culture, Port and maritime deputy, Mr. Tony Oller, Director of the Port of Saint-Tropez, and Mr. Bernard d’Alessandri, Vice-President of the SEA Index, formalised this collaboration at the Capitainerie de Saint-Tropez.
As an Institutional Member of SEA Index, the Port of Saint-Tropez will recognise SEA Index certification holders in the harbour and incentivise visiting yacht owners and crew members to identify and minimise CO2 emissions fostering less impactful yachting practices.
Launched in 2021, SEA Index provides independent and third-party verified CO2 certification for yachts over 25 metres with an overriding objective to champion less energy intensive yachting as part of the ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ collective, initiated by the Yacht Club de Monaco.
Yacht owners achieving a rating of three stars or higher on the SEA Index rating scale gain access to exclusive benefits, as enjoyed by members of the Saint-Tropez Lounge Club, as well as in other participating ports and marinas within the SEA Index network.
‘The integration of the Port of Saint-Tropez into the SEA Index is an essential step in our approach towards sustainable yachting. We are proud to be able to actively encourage yacht owners and their crews to adopt more environmentally friendly practices. By working together, we are not only preserving the natural beauty of our region, but also positioning Saint-Tropez as a pioneer of environmental innovation in the Mediterranean.’
Sylvie Siri, Mayor of Saint-Tropez, Regional Councillor
“We are delighted to welcome the Port of Saint-Tropez into the SEA Index network and look forward to rolling out our flagship CO2 assessment tool at this iconic location. Already recognised as an excellent port for service and style, the integration of SEA Index will cement the Port of Saint-Tropez as a leader in sustainability too.”
Bernard d’Alessandri, Superyacht Eco Association Vice President
“Joining the SEA Index certification highlights our collective and responsible commitment to providing an even better welcome for yachtsmen calling at our port, making it ever more attractive while promoting eco-responsible actions in favour of the environment. The aim is to publicise the actions we are taking and raise marina users awareness of the issues to change behaviours in the long term.”
Tony Oller, Director, Port of Saint-Tropez
A Strategic Partnership to Advance Responsible Yachting
As SEA Index continues its network expansion, an increasing number of ports, harbours and marinas are uniting in a common goal to promote responsible yachting. By providing yacht owners, naval architects and ship builders with an independent and unbiased CO2 benchmark, as well as certification verified by Lloyd’s Register and a consumption methodology from RINA, SEA Index is empowering a new generation of eco-conscious yacht owners to minimise CO2 emissions and futureproof the sector.
In joining the SEA Index, the Port of Saint-Tropez strengthens its commitment to responsible yachting and furthers its objective to encourage visitors to implement better practices both at sea and in and around the harbour.
