SEA Index® welcomes IBC Shipyard as a first in the Americas

La Romana, Dominican Republic, February 13th 2025

IBC Shipyard, a leader in luxury yacht maintenance and repair in the Caribbean, proudly announces its affiliation with SEA Index, becoming the first shipyard in the region to earn SEA Index corporate membership status.  Joining leading European shipyards such as Monaco Marine and MB92 La Ciotat, IBC’s SEA Index Superyacht Eco Association membership underscores IBC Shipyard’s commitment to more sustainability transparency, operational excellence, and marine ecosystem conservation. IBC will promote the SEA Index initiative and environmental assessment tools to clients and encourage the deployment of SEA Index in this destination.

SEA Index is an environmental awareness organisation and network that empowers yachting stakeholders to reduce CO2 emissions and increases transparency throughout the yachting sector.

Launched in 2020 by the Yacht Club de Monaco, under the aegis of its ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting‘ initiative, the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA Index) is a non-profit organisation designed to minimise the impact of yachting in order to preserve the oceans for future generations.

By enabling yachting stakeholders to accurately measure and reduce their environmental impact via a range of unbiased tools, methodologies and indices, SEA Index empowers the yachting community and increases transparency throughout the sector.

SEA Index’s flagship CO2 certification program is based on the International Maritime Organisation’s EEDI and EEXI and is adapted for yachts 24m+. The only superyacht design index to offer third-party verification, certificate holders that achieve 3-stars or higher on the SEA Index are invited to join the SEA Index network, which provides access to exclusive benefits, including priority berthing at selected ports, marinas and harbours.

Its mission is to support and guide superyacht owners towards less energy-intensive yachting by empowering them as they make informed decisions and incentivising them to engage with more eco-responsible yachting. SEA Index aims to create a true ecosystem of stakeholders, providing impartial information and helping to implement new solutions.

“For IBC Shipyard, joining SEA Index is a natural step in our commitment to environmental care and excellence in the luxury yachting industry,” stated Alice Caslini, Marketing Director at IBC Shipyard. “We firmly believe that the future of luxury yachting must align with sustainability, and SEA Index provides us with a platform to actively contribute to this cause.” Affiliating with SEA Index enables IBC Shipyard to access tools and resources to measure and enhance its environmental performance while becoming part of a global network of companies leading the shift toward a more sustainable future for the industry. Furthermore, it reinforces IBC Shipyard’s position as a strategic partner for yacht owners and captains as well as an ambassador of this philosophy, conveying this belief to all its users.
