On 28th June 2024, His Excellency Mr. Kenneth Racombo, Ambassador, representing Mr. Jean-François Ferrari, Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, signed the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA) Index® partnership agreement at the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) with the General Secretary, M. Bernard d’Alessandri.
The agreement confirms plans to incorporate the SEA Index® into its infrastructure as part of the territory’s ambitious and respectful policy of sustainable development, including: ‘The Seychelles Marine Spatial Plan’ (SMSP).
Launched in 2020 by YCM as part of the collective ‘Monaco,Capital of Advanced Yachting’ initiative, the SEA Index® is a reliable and independent benchmark to assess CO2 emissions of yachts over 25 metres.
With third party-verified certification, SEA Index® enables owners and stakeholders to accurately measure a vessel’s environmental footprint and take steps to reduce its impact.
His Excellency Mr. Kenneth Racombo, Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles comments:
“Becoming an Institutional Member of the SEA Index® network highlights the Seychelles’ commitment to the Blue Economy Concept promoting sustainability with the objective that yachting is undertaken in a manner that it also protects the environmental health of the marine ecosystem. One of the main focus of deploying the SEA Index at our ports, harbours and marinas is to further assist and complement our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions”
Superyacht Eco Association SEA Index® Vice President, M. Bernard d’Alessandri comments:
“We are honoured to welcome the Republic of Seychelles to the SEA Index® network and look forward to working with Port Victoria and Eden Island Marina to reduce the environmental impact of yachting in and around the region. The continued expansion of our network is indicative of the increasing demand for sustainable yachting, and we are delighted that the territory has selected the SEA Index® to support its environmental goals.”
