Monaco Ports (Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco – SEPM) consolidates bonds with Yacht Club de Monaco‘s

SEA Index® Superyacht Eco Association, incentivising less impactful yachting.

Port Hercule, one of the most iconic ports in the world, nestled in the vibrant heart of Monaco and a pivotal component of Monaco Ports (which also encompasses Port de Fontvieille and Port of Cala del Forte in Italy) is taking a proactive environmental stance.

As an Institutional SEA Index® Member, the port is now fully embracing the SEA Index ® incentive program aimed at recognising CO2 certified yachts that achieve a rating of 3 stars or higher on the SEA Index® scale.

Since 2021, the non -profit SEA Index® Superyacht Eco Association, part of the collective approach “Monaco, capital of Advanced Yachting“, offers third-party verified CO2 certification for Superyachts (25m +). Issued on behalf of the SEA Index® by maritime class society Lloyd’s Register.  The goal of the CO2 certification and Improvement Options document is to support Superyacht stakeholders towards less energy intensive yachting.

Yachts obtaining a certified SEA Index rating of 3 stars or more already benefit from reduced berth fees in the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Marina: -5% discount for SEA Index 3* Certified yachts and -10% discount for SEA Index 4* Certified yachts. Discounts for yacht crews on sustainability training courses provided by La Belle Classe Academy, the Yacht Club de Monaco’s renowned training centre, also apply.

Monaco Ports are now matching the same discounts (3 stars -5% 4 stars -10%) in those three ports.

By taking this strong stance, the SEPM is strengthening its commitment towards the SEA Index®, proactively taking steps to measure and mitigate the carbon footprint associated with superyachts, clearly indicating that the Principality of Monaco as a whole, is a pioneering destination for less impactful yachts.

SEPM Board of Directors President. M. Aleco KEUSSEOGLOU comments: ‘We are very pleased to consolidate our existing ties with the Superyacht Eco Association. The SEPM already have in place solutions to mitigate yachting impact, such as waste management, water usage and electrification. We are working together on the evolutions of the SEA Index® and look forward to fostering more sustainable solutions for all yachting stakeholders.’

The voluntary and rigorous SEA Index® CO2 certification process is free to all Yacht Club de Monaco members who own a 25m+ yacht. The Yacht Club de Monaco and the SEA Index Superyacht Eco Association invite worldwide yacht owners of vessels above 25 m to join Monaco in this voluntary initiative.
