SEA Index Contributes to Critical UNEP Adapt-Pelagos Workshop on Marine Conservation

Monaco, OCTOBER 27th 2025

SEA Index- Superyacht Eco Association is proud to announce its active participation in the first Adapt-Pelagos project workshop, organized by Plan Bleu UNEP/MAP (United Nations Environmental Program – Mediterranean Action Plan). Following this crucial collaboration, the official technical report is now available, featuring SEA Index expertise and tools among key recommendations for marine protection.

The workshop brought together leading experts, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss critical strategies for reducing the environmental impact of maritime activities on the Mediterranean’s fragile marine mammals and ecosystems.

SEA Index Recognized as an ‘Innovative Tool’

The newly released report accurately reflects the rich discussions and highlights five key messages, in which SEA Index’s contribution is strongly felt. Notably, the report specifically recognizes the SEA Index as one of the Innovative Tools that can “promote and support sustainable practices” in the industry.

Plan Bleu - Adapt Pelagos 1st Workshop

Our participation was centered on leveraging our expertise in Yachting Environmental Impact to inform practical, measurable solutions.

“Our involvement with Plan Bleu UNEP/MAP on the Adapt-Pelagos project underscores the indispensable role the superyacht community must play in marine conservation,” said Natalie Quévert, SEA Index General Secretary. “Having the SEA Index recognized as a key set of tools validates our mission to provide the industry with essential, science-based metrics, not only to measure yachting’s environmental impact but more importantly to provide a mitigation path forward for vessel owners .”

Key Takeaways Aligned with Our Mission

The report’s key messages strongly align with the core mission of the SEA Index; encouraging a clear shift toward more yachting sustainability:

  • Protection of Biodiversity and Ecosystems: The absolute priority is to reduce the impact of vessels on marine mammals and fragile habitats, a goal that drives the measurable emissions reductions advocated by SEA Index.
  • Concrete Actions: Recommendations to mitigate CO2 & NOx emissions, and underwater noise and adopt speed limits are all supported by the sustainability goals of SEA Index Superyacht Eco Association.
  • Sustainability Indicators: The need for joint cross sector development of measurable tools to monitor climate and biodiversity is precisely the gap the SEA Index fills by providing a clear, comparable metric for superyacht carbon intensity for example.
  • Governance & Collaboration: Strengthening cross-border cooperation between States, ports, and operators is essential for implementing the kind of widespread change that can truly protect the Ocean.

SEA Index Superyacht Eco Association remains committed to actively participating in these crucial multi-sector dialogues and implementing the measurable tools needed to drive significant environmental improvement within the yachting industry.
